Prisoner

once I walked invisible
I never felt the pull of gravity
I slipped through the cracks in the wall
shadow-less passed down the hall
soft as a whisper on wind
a prisoner, a prisoner of my own mind

once I thought I blended in
like a chameleon
kept my true colors concealed
I passed through the crowds like a ghost
silent like some unseen host
one lonely voice in the dark
a prisoner, a prisoner of my own mind

following this well-worn trail
I had fashioned my own jail

now the secret is not to fit in
or play the part of citizen
resigned to this cell in my head
a prisoner, a prisoner of my own mind
