Since their 1981 formation, Los Angeles-based alternative rock group Second Language have constantly unveiled new releases, their discography building over the decades to hold a huge array of singles, EPs and albums, transforming their sound time and time again. They’ve worked with a slew of top producers and made themselves local mainstays.
One of Second Language’s most recent singles is a remix of their track ‘Swing Time’. Moving and upbeat, the band bring brightness to the track, a shining light that contrasts the deeper sense of melancholy and grit further underneath the surface. The dynamic guitar riffs, the sweeping horns and the rising tide of shimmering tones are played against punk-edged vocals and punchy drumming. The uniqueness of a classic feel, a dark subject matter and raw foundations played against a sense of dazzling contentment make for a captivating listen from start to finish.
Jessie, Second Language figurehead, shares her thoughts on the project, “We wrote ‘Swing Time’ in 1988 about a romantic relationship gone wrong. This version was recorded in 1992 for our album ‘WrongSpeak,’ which was released in 1996. It was remixed in 2024 in Dolby Atmos by Michael James for a single release. The new remix breathes fresh life into the song, hopefully making it resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners.”
